Our Aims

The aims of the Institute are to advance the science and art of local, regional and national planning for the benefit of the public, and for that purpose the Institute has power to do all or any of the following things:

(a) To secure the association of those engaged or involved in planning.

(b) To determine and uphold the standards of knowledge and skill for persons seeking corporate membership of the Institute with the view to engaging professionally in planning,

(c) To further high standards of planning, high standards of competence among those engaged in planning and confidence of the community in the employment of qualified planners, including ensuring corporate membership of the Institute as a Chartered Planner shall be open only to those competent to engage in planning.

(d) To encourage and assist the education of persons intending to enter or to be associated with the planning profession.

(e) To maintain and preserve the integrity and status of the profession by laying down a code of conduct.

(f) To represent the corporate view of the profession

(g) To assist and advise government, local authorities, private or public bodies in the planning and development of urban and rural areas in the best interests of the community.

(h) To provide facilities for communication and interchange with other professional associations and educational and scientific bodies engaged in research on matters relating to planning and related subjects.

(i) To do all such other lawful things as are necessary or expedient for the attainment of the aims of the Institute.
